About the complementary PhD academic program
The program is intended for the following:
- Students who graduated their M.A. studies in political science with a final grade of 86 and above, yet did not write a thesis. These students will be required to write a research thesis and receive a grade of 90 at least.
- Students who graduated their studies in another field (not political science) and received an M.A. diploma in an average grade of 86 at least and received a grade of at least 90 on their thesis. These students will be required to complete the following course with a grade of at least 85 in each course:
- Introduction to government and politics (B.A. course)
- The Israeli political system (B.A. course)
- One of the three courses according to the field of research of the thesis: Introduction to
international relations; Introduction to public administration; Introduction to political theory(B.A.course)
- Theories and school of thought (M.A. course)
- Research workshop (M.A. course)
Application for admission will be submitted to the chairman of the M.A. committee with the following documents:
- CV.
- Certificate of entitlement for first and second degrees including grade sheets.
- Two recommendations from teachers attesting to the research skills of the candidate.
- Letter of intent of the thesis, two pages at most (signed by the supervisor), including:
a. Subject of the work.
b. Brief description of the relevant field of study.
c. Main research question.
d. Description of the relevant and theoretical tools and approaches used in the reach and specific
research hypotheses.
e. 2-3 bibliographical items relevant to the research subject.
f. Presentation of research methods used in order to prove research hypotheses.
g. Explanation of the potential and predicted conceptual and empirical contribution of the research.
Admission committee
The admission committee of advanced studies in the School will consider and decide upon admission of candidates to this program based upon the level of grades in the M.A. studies and the thesis (if any), recommendations, letter of intent and the grades of the student in complementary courses (if required).
Dates of admission
Admission is available twice a year: between 15.1-15.2 and 15.9-15.10
Only students who fulfill all tasks and obligations of complementary studies may submit an application for admission to PhD studies and their candidacy will be considered by the PhD committee.
